2 types of catastrophic injuries caused by car accidents

On Behalf of Mann Law Firm, P.C. | Feb 6, 2026 | Personal Injury

When someone gets hurt in a serious car accident, they experience major injuries that are often deemed catastrophic. Because of this, the physical and mental damage it gives them become life-altering and permanent.

If you or your loved one suffers from a catastrophic injury, you must seek justice for your accident that can help you receive appropriate compensation for your intangible losses.

Fractured spine (vertebrae)

When a car crash victim experiences a high-speed collision, the bones on their spinal cord may break due to the extreme force of the impact. Also known as a fractured vertebrae, this type of spinal cord injury happens when multiple bones on their spinal column shatters or bends too far forward.

Depending on the severity of the damage, a fractured spine may lead to mobility issues, bowel problems, nerve damage or paralysis.

Brain hematomas

Brain hematomas are a serious type of traumatic brain injury (TBI) that occurs when a car crash victim experiences a sudden or direct impact to the head. When this happens, their brain’s blood vessels may tear or rupture — leading to bleeding in or around their brain.

As the blood starts to collect and form clots, it can put an excessive strain on the victim’s brain, which can cause nausea, blown pupils, seizures or loss of movement on one side of the body. If a brain hematoma is left untreated, it can progress and lead to brain damage or death.

Seek justice for your life-altering crash injury

No person deserves to live their lives permanently paralyzed by their mental and physical traumas. If you are a crash survivor who is experiencing loss of enjoyment of life and/or emotional distress because of your injuries, you must fight for your rights and seek fair compensation for your accident.
